How to achieve my goals in 2020 to become the best version of myself?

There is something about a fresh start! The blank page, canvas, day, month, year…. is just an opportunity for endless possibilities. I couldn’t wait to reflect on the past year and look at the possibilities of this year. I had to tackle some clutter as mentioned in my previous post but I am now able to look back. 2019 was great! 2019 was a year of awakening! I awakened to a new me, to my inner wisdom and the abundance of life. So how am I moving in 2020? Last year I set an INTENTION to be the best version of myself, this year I am in with a growth mindset in order to continue my transformation and learning.

This year I have 2 mantras that will guide me on my journey:

  1. Life is happening FOR me
  2. There is always a way

My word for 2020 is ‘ACTION’ ! Action is the word that speaks to me this year. When I close my eyes thinking of this word, when I step into the word ‘action’, it inspires Freedom, it inspires me to Move! I want to move towards my goals, I want to move unwanted beliefs, toxins, out of my body and mind, I want to move my body to feel energised! This word makes me feel alive!

A lot of experts are saying that New Year’s Resolutions don’t work for many reasons. This is my take on why it may not work for most people:

  1. It feels like something we HAVE to do because someone else is doing it or told us to do it or we want to follow the trend
  2. We don’t know how to start
  3. The results seems too far away
  4. We have no support or someone to keep us accountable
  5. We have limited beliefs that hold us back
  6. We see our goal/s as separate from us
  7. We lack motivation

So how can we achieve our Wellness Goals?

  1. Know your WHY! (What is your INTENTION behind your goal/s?) When you are working on a goal based on an intrinsic motivation, you are more likely to stick to it when things get harder or there are obstacles in the way
  2. Make a bit of a plan, do some research or get a professional to help you.
  3. Choose a growth mindset- adopt Nelson Mandela’s quote, “I never loose, I either win or learn”
  4. Have fun or make it fun and make it work for you/your lifestyle/your situation
  5. Join a group of people or a friend that is on the same journey
  6. Let go of the limited beliefs that works against you e.g I can’t do it, its too hard, I am not this kind of person etc.. (Learn to know yourself and your beliefs first so you can’t change them accordingly. Note that we are constantly changing, something that may have served us before may no longer serve us in the current time)
  7. Keep an open mind and trust life/God
  8. Last but not least, make the goal a part of your identity. BE the person you want to become. Identify yourself with your goal (if your goal is to be fit, think like an athlete, be an athlete. If your goal is to create a business, be the businessman/woman that you aspire to be. (Get moving-Include stillness-Inspirational readings daily will help you shift your identity) Something I recently learned by listening to Vishen Lakhiani, founder of Mindvalley.

To help me achieve my goals this year with the same INTENTION to be the best version of myself, I have created a list of 10 Rules:

  1. I will rise to my challenges and show up to my life as it is
  2. I will take 3 deep breaths before acting in the moment on anything that created negative feelings
  3. I will focus on what I can do and ask for help
  4. I will be grateful for what I have
  5. I will allow-concede-transcend my negative feelings
  6. I will keep an open mind and be curious about my discoveries
  7. I will accept the consequences of my choices
  8. I will have compassion for myself and learn from my mistakes/failures
  9. I will look within for answers and I will be patient
  10. I will stay true to myself and trust my inner wisdom

Traits and characteristics I want to work on this year are: Flexibility, Courage, Problem-Solving, Openness, Determination, Curiosity, Resilience and Discipline.

I have also written an affirmation statement (based on my vision) for various areas of my life (Finance/Career, Work, Relationship, Mental, Physical and Spiritual health..) which I aimed to read aloud daily to myself. My affirmations are in present tense as if I am already living the life of my dream. I have noticed that every time I read it, I feel the way I would have felt if I was already living this new life and my energy level rise instantly.

I decided to tackle my Wellness Journey as mentioned on my very newly opened Facebook page Wellness Aspirations where I will be showing more actions/interactions more often. I will have a Facebook link soon on my blog page but in the meantime, you can click on the link (I have only outlined my monthly wellness focus so far). I am hoping that now that things are somehow back to normal, I’ll be more active. In this past month of active De-cluttering (unfortunately it was more of a forced binge clean rather than a small intentional space by space clean as I had a deadline to vacate) while also having to focus on my new role at work, my daughter’s needs, my financial challenges, and all the other day to day tasks and personal challenges, I have learned a few things. Having been in this situation have reinforced some of my beliefs and validated the benefits of my wellness intention. For example,

  • During the transition of moving house I stopped having my regular salt bath and other self-care, I stopped having a balanced meal, I stopped sleeping early, I stopped having any stillness/quiet time for myself, I stopped journaling, I spend less time outside,… my good habits went out of the window and of course it was reflected in my body- I was highly anxious, foggy brain, low energy and irritable, aches, a sinus infection, blurred vision, disconnected and out of balance…

Therefore I am more than motivated to keep up with my new life resolution (to S.LO.W D.O.W.N) as I know it works for me. I have to say that I handled things better than what I would have before I started my journey and seeing how it actually made a difference in me, makes me want to stay on this journey! When I stopped doing what I was doing (S.L.O.W D.O.W.N) things started to go down hill. Luckily this was only temporary as I am now able to nurture myself back to where I was with room for learning and growth as usual. I have also decided that it’s OK to be off track for a short time. Not judging or beating myself up but simply becoming aware and getting back on track is more effective than adding the emotional load to my already stressed self. Therefore as I mentioned before, it is not about Being Perfect but about Being Willing! It is about staying focus on your Purpose/ on your Intention/ on your Goals. The obstacles are your stepping stones to move forward as frustrating or uncomfortable as they may be.

What did you learn from 2019? What are you bringing in 2020? What is/are your Wellness Aspiration/s for 2020?

With much love and to THE BEST IN YOU

Corinne xoxo
